Odyssey 2016 is part of a series of annual events in SMITE to celebrate the World Championships and the introduction of the Japanese pantheon. The 2016 edition of the event began on September 29, 2015 and ended on January 12, 2016. Over the course of several weeks, 14 Cosmetic Items were released each week until December 21, 2015. These items were only available for direct purchase up to January 12, 2016, right after the end of the SMITE World Championship 2016. Every Odyssey item that purchased contributed towards the Championship prize pool. Players would obtain limited rewards by unlocking certain numbers of Odyssey cosmetic items. Additionally, every item purchase also granted a free Odyssey 2016 Chest roll that could be claimed in the Rewards Center. This chest could grant anything from god skins, ward skins and voicepacks to special Exclusive items.

| It's been a long and arduous trek through he Highlands, but we have finally made it to out first checkpoint - The Yucatan Peninsula. We docked at Progreso and journeyed south through dense and humid jungle terrain. We are a few men lighter now than when we began our expedition, but alas, we have arrived.
The legends that speak of the Yucatan Peninsula hold a lot of truth to their beauty. This extends to the Mayan fables, too; namely the Serpent of the Nine Winds, Kukulkan. If I had not witnessed it for myself, I would not have believed it either, but for anyone reading this, I can assure you, he is no myth. As we hacked through the final jungle bush, the great serpent buster forth from its slumber, soared high above our party and emitted a hissed screech. High above us, it beat its wings and glared down, silhouetted by the incandescent Sun. Frozen in place, we stared in awe at the beast and, as fast as it had appeared, it vanished, lost to the skies. I would like to put this experience down to a delusion of heat exhaustion, but I fear it foolish to do so.

| It's only been a few days, but I'm already starting to feel the effects of seasickness sinking their hooks deep under my skin. I fear that I will fall ill shortly if we do not dock. The only thing that's keeping me shorebound is the memory of Kukulkan. It's difficult to put it into words exactly, but obtaining confirmation of a myth is exhilarating. One of our crew is talented with ink and quill, and sketched out her memory of the beast. I can verify that it matches up to my recollection of the experience. I've pinned the picture to the wall of my quarters in the hope Kukulkan's wind will get me off this vessel faster.

| Land. I don't think I've ever been so grateful to place my own two feet firmly onto solid earth. My legs may be weak and my head may be spinning, but the motionlessness of the desk I currently write at is better than anything I could ask for. I feel like delirium is something I'm going to have to live with for the immediate future, however. I was sitting at the inn's window, gazing at the landscape below, and I was convinced that I saw a woman flying through the air with the tail of a snake and a futuristic looking helmet upon her head. Now might be as good a time as any to take a break and have a lay down.

| My party and I have not been in China long, but tomorrow we head out once again. Fortunately it seems that my stomach has settled and I will once again be able to function unimpaired.
While I have spent a lot of my time here bedridden, it will be with a heavy heart that I leave China. This could be because I am fully aware that we have a journey that will take us across two continents ahead of us, but I believe it's more than that. Tonight there will be a feast to commemorate our time here! I am not too familiar with Chinese traditions, but I believe, once the feast has been well and truly finished, we will be releasing lanterns into the night's sky. I can say honestly that I am looking forward to that sight, as I've been told it's quite something to behold!

| My party and I have returned to out homeland of Greece, but not everything is as it seems. It is an age where men and gods can live amongst one another, and it is not unheard of to encounter a beast to be slain; however, what I have witnessed was beyond my comprehension.
Whilst I journeyed West towards my hometown, I was set off my path by a sand storm and, rather than push through, my team and I took refuge in a nearby cave system. As I lay there, the sound of the storm thrashing down outside, noises from within the depths of the cave piqued my curiosity and I went exploring. As I ventured deeper into the structure, the noises became louder and more sharp. The sound of hisses mixed with a slash of steel on rock. The mixture sounded alien to my ears and yet, I continued. Rounding a meander, I froze. Laying not a few yards from where I stood was Medusa, The Gorgon. Her scales had been replaced with a finest of metal, and her quiver stood beside her, glowing emerald in the darkness. I took my chance and turning on my heel as fast as was humanly possible, but it seems I awoke one of her minions as, peering over my shoulder, a blackened figure bathed in a pool of green light. Shutting my eyes tight, I ran, arms outstretched to help navigate. Once I returned to my men, I assured them that weathering the storm would result in a better fate than remaining where they lay and with that, we were gone.

| Having made it through the storm with only minor abrasions to my party, I believed that this was the end of my journey. I'm back in my homeland of Greece and only a few days travel to my hometown of Ithaca but alas, it seems that the gods have other ideas.
As my party and I were travelling West towards Ithaca, events kept cropping up that would make us change our course. Wild beasts would appear from seemingly nowhere, trees would collapse and block our path, and rambling groups of merchants would sell us poisoned ales, to name just a few. It wasn't until one night two days into travelling across Greece that I was informed of our calling. As my party slept, I kept guard and, on the brink of dozing off, a commanding voice came forth from the heavens proclaiming that we must travel north to Scandinavia. There was a great unrest there that only we could conquer.

| Upon arriving in the Scandinavian region, it was with great disappointment that I say I was missold the truth of the situation. My party and I travelled for days on end to reach this place as the commanding voice had informed me too. As we passed through towns and villages on our journey here, we began to hear legends of the great wolf that was terrorizing residents all across the area.
We arrived in Teigebyen during the dead of the night with the wind on our backs and the snow no less than five inches deep. Straight away, we realized that something was disturbing the peacefulness of this village and sought to investigate. Poised with our swords at the ready, we swept the village house by house, searching for our foe. Screams from scared villagers lead our way to the beast and, finally, after an hour of searching, we had him cornered. He was snarling and howling as we neared him but, with a trembling hand, one of my party managed to pick him up by the scruff of the neck. His hood fell from his face and, hanging there in the night's chill was Ratatoskr, The Sly Messenger. My man dropped him out of surprise and, with a brief glance around at us, he darted away into the darkness.

| As we had travelled all the way to Norway, my party and I decided to stay a few nights in the town of Teigebyen and celebrate with the local townsfolk. While the beast terrorizing their town was actually Ratatoskr in disguise, they were still incredibly grateful to us for vanquishing the "Brann Hund", a name that they'd given to the terror.
We took these few days to reflect upon our current adventure, and tell tales of our encounters with the brink of death. The locals were quite fond of these stories and, although I have my journals for an accurate depiction of events, I think it's safe to say that the townsfolk of Teigebyen have a slightly embellished version of the stories. As we were packing up our gear to head south and continue our journey, a lot of villagers came out of their homes to bid us a farewell. Some even brought small gifts to show their appreciation for our heroism. Among the food, gloves, and paintings, a young girl sheepishly approached us and tugged on my overcoat. Kneeling down, she laid a small statue of a man in the palms of my hand and swore that it would give us good luck and allow us to see danger before it arrived.

| Our next port of call was Rome, Italy. It's a city I'd visited many a time before, but a curious presence hung over it this time. The air almost felt like it was coursing with electricity making it harder to breathe. The most curious happenstance was perhaps the noises that residents continued to hear.
Upon arriving, it wasn't long before we began to experience the tales for ourselves. As we entered the inn we would be habiting for the next few days, a peculiar sound echoed through the building. It was a low, deep noise that made the window panes shake momentarily in their frames. This anomaly soon became more as, every time one of my party would cross over a threshold, the noise would ring out. Perhaps a more interesting phenomenon, we found that if we crossed a threshold continuously, one after another, we could create different patterns in the sound. We've yet to figure out exactly what is the source of this, but our research continues.

| We've been in Rome for the past week and finally managed to discover the origin of the noise. We were graced with the presence of Bellona, Goddess of War, as she spoke to her people outside the Colosseum. We inquired if she'd heard anything and, according to her, Janus, the God of Portals and Transitions, was going through a new phase after speaking with Chronos, Keeper of Time about a futuristic type of music. Personally, I don't understand the appeal, but some of my party seemed to enjoy it while it lasted.
Speaking of new-age phases, Bellona looked a bit different since the last time that I encountered her.

| After our brief excursion to Rome, it was off to Bisrakh, a small village in Uttar Pradesh, India. My party and I weren't really given much insight into why we must travel here, but did so willingly nevertheless. After this many months, you learn to just have faith.
During our stay we were wined and dined by the locals who were very accommodating to our sudden appearance within their village. They even went so far as to put on a small tournament between themselves as entertainment. I'm not really one to indulge in fighting for the sake of entertainment, but I watched along with my fellow travelers all the same. One of the fighters looked incredibly familiar, however. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but there was something about his clean shaved face that set off bells in my head.

| Once the tournament had finished between the villagers, prizes were awarded out to the winners. I still found one of the fighters familiar, but I just couldn't put my finger on why.
As we were packing up our gear to move on to our next location, one of the fighters approached me and took a necklace from around his neck. The necklace held a pendant with an insignia of a Shinto shrine engraved upon it. He held his hand out, palm down and prompted me to do the same. Placing the pendant in my hand, he closed my fingers around it, making a fist and pushed it back towards me. "Yours" he said, smiled, and walked away. Sometimes it's the smaller things that you remember from trips like this.

| We arrived in our final location of our travels to discover that it had been plagued with darkness. Egypt, being relatively close to the equator, is known to have much longer days, and shorter nights. When we arrived, the sun would only rise when the clocks struck 12 and the morning led into the afternoon.
After a few days of exploration and no change in the conditions, we found the source. Clad in iron, we found Khepri, The Dawn Bringer hoarding the morning sun. I had previously heard tales about this deity, and he was often described as kind-hearted, supportive; a guardian almost. This is not what we saw before us however. A sharpened blade adorned his right arm, and a glowing red orb had taken the place of his eyes. No longer the peaceful beast he once was, he had been transformed into a machine of death and destruction. I will spare you the details of our interaction with him because, while it lasted more than six hours, and we fought tooth and nail, we reigned victorious, and that's all that really matters here.

| Having overcome the beast that had inhabited Khepri, we had managed to restore him to his former glory and restore the morning sun to the people of Egypt. As this was our final destination on our arduous journey, the team and I took some well needed R&R, and took a leave to the Pyramids.
Standing atop a sand dune and watching the evening sunset, silhouetting the mighty pyramids, will be an image I remember for the rest of my days. We did, however, find something slightly puzzling whilst exploring one of the pyramids. Carved into one of the inside walls was a foreign looking symbol, with a similar symbol carved into a decorated piece of wood below it. We've yet to work out exactly what this means, but we believe it is a foretelling for things to come.

The final reward of the Odyssey 2016 was Ragnarok Force X Thor, a Tier 5 Skin. The only other Tier 5 skin in the game used to be the previous Odyssey's final reward, Archon Thanatos.
